Folks,

Apologies for the late notice, but we just got the new IP addresses today, and we're trying to allow some troubleshooting time before people leave town for Thanksgiving. I will update this topic with more precise times as soon as I can.

Scheduled Downtime
BIAC servers Adrian, Email, Gall, Goldman, Hall, Nernst, and WWW will be down Sunday 11/18/07 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM due to the IP address changeover in the Bell Bldg. Also, all Windows workstations will be changed over at the same time. If you have a specific concern about the time, please let me know.

The following servers will not be down on Sunday, but will be down later in the week. Updates to follow.
Golgi and Einstein (the BIAC cluster)

Immediate Impact
  • Everyone needs to be logged off Windows and Linux computers during this time.

  • You will not be able to access files on Adrian, Gall, Goldman, Hall, Nernst. (Your user profile and home directory are stored on Gall.)

  • You will not be able to send, receive or read email.

  • The BIAC web site and scheduling calendar will be down.

Long-Term Impact
  • All BIAC workstations and most BIAC servers will be located in the PHI firewall zone, and will not be directly accessible from outside the DUMC firewall.

  • You will need to use the VPN or SSH tunneling to get remote access to any workstations. I will be contacting those who use Remote Desktop separately.

  • SFTP connections to BIAC data servers will go through Nernst (at least initially).

We will do our best to minimize disruptions ensuing from this change, but there will probably be some that we don't catch. Please bear with us during this transition, and let us know if you encounter any problems.

Thanks,
Francis

We are still working on the changeover. It is taking longer than we thought. More updates to follow.

Update
BIAC servers should be up and running. You will probably have trouble accessing them from Golgi, however. This should be fixed soon.

Also, some computers in DHN will be unable to logon to the domain. I am fixing this at the moment, so you may get punted off.

Update

If you are in the VA/MIRECC, you are having the same issue as DHN boxes. I will be fixing these shortly.

Update

All BIAC data servers are once again accessible from Golgi.

Everyone will need to run cifslogin for each Windows server they want to access.
