When I try to access any of the network drives in Golgi (ex: ~/net/goldman/data) and then I do an ls command, it says:

ls: .: There is an input or output error.

What happened? It was working just a few hours ago.

I suspect one of the nightly jobs I developed to get rid of old files in /tmp also got rid of some temporary files that sharity likes to keep around.

I have been trying to restart sharity, but am not having any luck. I will post back when this is resolved.

Sorry, restarting sharity required a reboot...

I don't have access to Operational Announcements, so here is what I would post there (and someone else may be posting this for me soon):

Dear all,

A nightly job on golgi that cleaned up files in /tmp was suspected in causing sharity to stop allowing logins, and eventually to stop responding. This necessitated a reboot to bring the remote servers back on line. You will need to restart any jobs on golgi that were running during the time of the reboot. You will also need to re-login to storage servers from golgi, using cifslogin. I apologize for the gross inconvience of this. The nightly job has been altered to only remove users' files (not the root user), and we are looking in to ways to get various tools (FSL especially) to avoid using /tmp in the future. If you have any questions about this, please post to the "Unix Support" forum ( http://www.biac.duke.edu/forums/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=14 )

That particular method is useful for selye but for other shares:
cifslogin SERVER
should suffice unless your BIAC login name is greater than 8 characters or is otherwise
different from your golgi login name.

Here is a more generic link:

Is sharity down again? I'm getting the same error as the first post in this thread.
