Once again the cable connections in the Mock Scanner Room were disconnected and/or moved. This was discovered by an unlucky user who was unable to use the polhemus (head tracking) equipment for their session. The system has been reconnected and is in working condition.
Altering the cable and equipment connections often results in the equipment not working for the next user. In addition, this is unnecessarily inconsiderate. If you are having difficulty with any of our equipment or would like it to work in a new way, DO NOT change the connections yourself. Let us know; We are more than happy to assist you in using BIAC facilities. |

Yesterday there was a Forum post by Imran that the Polhemus system had been changed. Does today's message mean it has been changed back?
If so, this demonstrates that any changes in hardware software need to be communicated better to all users. The Forums are good for posting questions and notices that are not critical, but cannot be used as the only form of communication for critical issues. At the very least, any change that affects the way people use BIAC hardware needs to be posted on or near the equipment so that users are made aware when they arrive to use it.
As Michele said, nobody should change hardware components without authority. I would add that even with authority the changes need to be thoroughly tested, properly labeled, and documented in a way that ensures that ALL users are informed. I suspect that not all users read all forum notices on a daily basis.

To clarify my earlier message - the polhemus system was not working before the change in computers was made on Monday. No further changes have been made to the Mock Scanner Computers since Imran's post. The directions that Imran posted should work,

If you experience any troubles with the equipment, let me know.
