Jerry, Chuck and I made effort to integrate the NOVA phased-array coil into our 4T scanner. After some initial drawings on paper, we made modifications on the 4T to test the design. The first phased-array images were acquired at 3:30 pm today, and they looked pretty good. The signal level within a 12x12 cm ROI was approximately 2.5 times higher than that of the standard GE headcoil, but it may vary depending on the selection of ROI. More importantly, the temporal fluctuation seemed well under control also, it was 0.5% for spiral-out images and 0.8% for spiral-in images. The slightly higher fluctuation for spiral-in images were caused by a slow downward drift, whose mechanism is under further investigation.
