Scanner Users,
A new, improved version of the Video Switcher software has been installed on Mach (1.5T WinXP machine) and Darwin (4T WinNT machine). This software has allowed us to assign names to each of the devices attached to the KVM switch for ease of use. The software includes the traditional "Matrix View" that Jim Voyvodic explained at the BIAC Users Group talk on Monday (4/21/03). It also includes a "Line View" that people may find intuitive.
Short Tutorial:
(1) Launch "Video Switcher" from the "Start Menu".
Note: This launches two programs: "NTI Switch Monitor" and "NTI Matrix Switchers Control Program". You don't use the "NTI Switch Monitor" directly, so minimize this program until you are finished adjusting the settings.
(2) Adjust settings in the "Matrix View" or "Line View"
Example 1 (1.5T): Send the DVD to the googles/projector

The "Users" are the displays, keyboards, and mice. The connections on each system are currently:
BIAC 1.5T User 1: Left monitor, keyboard, mouse User 2: Right monitor, keyboard, mouse User 3: Goggles (Both Eyes) and Projector User 4: None
BIAC 4T User 1: Left monitor, keyboard, mouse User 2: Right monitor, keyboard, mouse User 3: Goggles (Both Eyes or Right Eye)* User 4: Googles (Left Eye)
* When the googles are in "normal" mode, the both eyes show "User 3". When the googles are in binocular mode, the right eye displays "User 3" and the left eye displays "User 4"
The "CPUS" consist of the computer video outputs and DVD players. The connections on each system are currently:
BIAC 1.5T CPU 1: Donders (Windows 98) CPU 2: Mach (Windows XP) - 1st video output* CPU 3: Mach (Windows XP) - 2nd video output* CPU 4: DVD Player
BIAC 4T CPU 1: Kulpe (Windows 98) CPU 2: Darwin (Windows NT) - 1st video output* CPU 3: Darwin (Windows NT) - 2nd video output* CPU 4: DVD Player
* Both Mach and Darwin have two video output signals (i.e. "Dual monitor" video cards)
In the matrix view, the the "Users" are on the left and the "CPUS" are on the top. To connect a "User" to a "CPU" click on the box where the desired "User" row and "CPU" column intersect. Note that the square at the intersection of the googles and the DVD player is filled-in in Example 1.
In the line view, the "CPUS" are on the left and the "Users" are on the right. The lines show which devices are connected together. To connect a "User" to a "CPU", drag the desired "User" onto the desired "CPU". Note that there is a line connecting the googles and the DVD player in Example 1. Personally, I find this view easier to use because both the "Users" and "CPUS" are labeled with descriptive names.
Example 2 (1.5T): Send the output of Donders (Win98) to the googles/projector.

Example 3 (1.5T): Send the output of Mach (WinXP)'s first monitor to the googles/projector.

Example 4 (4T): Send the output of Kulpe (Win98) to the googles (Both Eyes or Right Eye).

(3) When you are finished adjusting the settings, quit both "NTI Switch Monitor" and "NTI Matrix Switchers Control Program".
Enjoy, Chuck |

Scanner Users,
For some unknown reason, the Video Switch can occationally get into an invalid state that prevents the "Video Switcher" software from working. If the "Video Switcher" software fails when it launches please try the following:
(1) Quit "NTI Switch Monitor" and "NTI Matrix Switchers Control Program"
(2) Launch "Reset Video Switch" from the "Start Menu" (located under Programs:NTI Video Switcher). This will reset the switch to a known state. If you see the message "Access is denied", quit all programs and run the "Reset Video Switch" program again.
(3) Launch "Video Switcher" from the "Start Menu".
Enjoy, Chuck |
