I just wanted to know if it was possible to access the BIAC scheduling calendar from my MAC at home. I tried on Safari, Firefox, and Netscape but was unable to do so.

Thanks
-Laura

Jeff, you need to just call Duke oit, and they walk you through a different install, and fix it in about 4 minutes.

Nope. That's the URL that puts Mac 64 users in a perpetual loop. One can stop the automatic process and download the vpinstaller.sh script directly from the URL, but when the .sh script is SUDOed (as suggested by Chris) it will construct a Mac .dmg installer that for some reason defaults to Duke VPN, not Duke Medicine. I've tried the process three times now with the same result and from the same URL provided. It's a mystery to me. I'm going to take my laptop to the VA tomorrow to see if I can piggyback onto the Duke wireless system and then attempt the URL download again. Maybe its something to do with access from outside the Duke network...

You can download the DHE VPN here: https://vpn.duhs.duke.edu/

Thanks! I figured it was that sort of problem. Did OIT send you a copy of the Duke Medicine VPN or direct you to a web address for the download? The OIT person I got on the phone a couple of days ago was pretty clueless about what to do. Jeff

Hi Jeff,
You need to download a different vpn client server, and Duke OIT can help you with this. I had the same problem from my MAC, it kept downloading the Duke VPN (not duke medicine) and they helped me over the phone, and I can vpn to BIAC with the Duke Medicine vpn just fine now, and access the calendar from my MAC. good luck.

I cannot download the DHE VPN client. I go to the website you recommend, as I have done in the past, and the form either asks for my info and does so reiteratively with no forwarding to the actual client install. I double-checked on this by modifying the Java presets to allow just about anything to run, which did not fix the problem. When I have been able to access the VPN client installer page, it goes through the install process, then stops and says that it cannot proceed. It provides me with a link to the actual .sh package, which I download and install using the Sudo sh installer.sh command Chris recommended. This installs the VPN client just fine, but sadly it defaults to "Duke VPN" and not "Duke Medicine VPN." A VPN connection can and has been made numerous times with this "Duke VPN" version (at least in so much as what the VPN client window and command history is telling me). I've put in an incident report with OIT. Hopefully they will help...but I'm not holding out hope.

Jeff,

The DHE VPN client is available for download at the URL listed above. Also, you have to log on to the client, just starting it is not sufficient.

The problem persists. I do have the VPN client and it is running when I attempt login. The VPN client, however, does not default to "Duke Medicine," but notes "Duke VPN." I don't think this is what is needed. I attempted a work-around to get to the scheduling calendar by using the Citrix virtual PIN station method, in which I open up a browser within the DHE domain / Virtual PIN station. But, this too did not work. I received the same "Forbidden IP" error message. I suspect the problem rests in my system being Mac OS and Duke being generally Mac-unfriendly in terms of its software and installation defaults. OIT has the problem in their queue. Hopefully they can find a work around or just email me the "Duke Medicine" VPN client as a stand-alone .dmg install package.

You may need to use the DHE VPN: https://vpn.duhs.duke.edu/

Either way, you'll need to log on to the VPN client, which it appears you haven't done, since you would have a Duke IP address if you had.

Thanks, Francis. That's the rub. The Duke VPN client is preset to only accept my Duke account and not my DHE account. I'll give OIT a ring and see what can be done on their end. Hopefully they can resolve the client defaults problem. I appreciate your time on this.

OK, that's the problem. You still have a Road Runner IP address. After starting the VPN client, you'll need to log on with your DHE account credentials to get a Duke IP address.

Hi, Francis. With the VPN client running, I get the following IP

Your IP address is: 173.95.177.248

Jeff,

Can you visit the following link with VPN connection active and report the IP address you get?

Hi, Francis.

That's the problem. I have an active VPN client running and yet I still receive the error/access message.

Jeff,

You don't need any proxy settings for the VPN, but you need to have an active VPN connection (i.e., be logged on to VPN) to access the calendar.
