I have set up my home computer to check email with the instructions that were posted on these forums. I use Microsoft Outlook 2003 and it normally works just fine. However, today I am receiving the following error when trying to send messages....

Task 'Jamie's Work Email - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC7D) : 'Your outgoing (SMTP) server does not support SSL-secured connections. If SSL-secured connections have worked in the past, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

I changed my smtp server to my home isp's server, but was just wondering if this is error is temporary.

Gabriel,

You must have NetID and passport. Go to duke web page and get your
NetID.

How do I find out my correct NetID and password to use with the SMTP server? I tried both my BIAC ID and password as well as the ID and password I use to VPN to DUHS, and neither combination worked. Thanks.

OK, it looks like they don't plan to allow SMTP in through the firewall. Rather, they want you to use the DUHS SMTP Relay. Here are instructions on how to set it up:
https://email.duhs.duke.edu/relays/index.html

The DUHS relay should work from either side of the firewall.

This is a Medical Center firewall issue. The fix will probably come when we switch IP subnets. Your workaround of using your ISP's SMTP server is the correct one. I will post here when I have an update.

I am having a similar problem, although I have no visible error message.
