Folks,
Unscheduled Downtime
As many of you noticed, there was a network outage in the Bell Bldg. today from about 1:15 AM to 2:45 PM. Apparently, one of the switches in the machine room died. It took them an inordinately long time to fix it, despite my giving them all the info they needed in the wee hours of the morning.
Goldman and Hall took longer to recover, due to bad ports on the new switch (and some other issues for Goldman). Goldman was back up around 6:15 PM. Hall was intermittently available earlier and fully back around 9:00 PM.
Impact
- All servers were unavailable.
- You couldn't login.
- You weren't able to send, receive or read email.
- The BIAC web site and scheduling calendar were unavailable.
- A bad time was had by all.
Update
Things should be back to normal now.
