Hey all,
I have no experience whatsoever with UNIX and I keep getting an error on Golgi when I try to use bputil:
ERROR! could not load experiments object
Any help? The other forums make no sense to me.
Thanks,
Lily

Hey Lily,

You need access to Huxley to be able to access the Experiment Listing. Francis has to map your UNIX UID to your Windows account before bputil will be able to recognize those experiments. To quickly test if this mapping is available, try

ls ~/net/huxley/data

If you get a permission denied, then the mapping has not yet been made and you'll just have to wait. If you don't get a permission denied and bputil still gives that error, send me email and I'll look into it.

I got permission denied, so I'll just wait. Thanks for getting back to me so fast.

Let us know if this still isn't working. It should be as of 90 minutes ago or so.

Did you try the ls command above? What did it give you?

Take a look at this forum post, first reply.

http://www.biac.duke.edu/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=381. Follow the instructions and you should be able to get that mount working.

Hey Jimmy,
So, I did everything that forum suggested and it doesn't help. I still get the same error. I don't understand why ls ~/net/huxley/data would tell me anything. I don't have access to huxley anyway. I did the CIFS login for Nernst, where my data is located, but that's not the problem, it's finding my experiment just fine. It's bputil that seems to be unavailable to me. Is bputil on huxley? I still get permission denied after following the directions in the other forum when I try the above mentioned ls. I also still get the same error for bputil. I found some other instructions that say to cifslogin gall, and I did that, but bputil still doesn't work for me.

Sorry to post again Jimmy, it seems that I have access to Huxley\Data in Windows, but not within Unix. My data is on Nernst, and I've successfully mounted Nernst, I can't mount Huxley.
Do I really need to get on Huxley to run bputil if my data's on Nernst?
I've followed the mounting procedure to get on Huxley and Scott tried too, and I still can't get on Huxley.
I can ls the subfolders in CUD.01, but linux won't read anything that's inside of my subfolders.
Help!

Try it now. There was a problem with the mismatch between your Windows and Unix usernames. Should be OK now. Sorry for the confusion.

Hi Francis,
It worked once this morning, and I finally got the bputil menu, but then it wouldn't access my experiment, CUD.01. I tried restarting golgi and I got the same error I've been getting all along. Jeff said I probably needed access to some txt file on Huxley that bputil calls on, so I thought maybe you controlled that.
Thanks,
Lily
