Dear BIAC Investigator:
The new BIAC 3.0 Tesla scanner was successfully ramped on May 17th, and is now at field. The GE engineers have reported that the field uniformity of the new magnet is excellent and much better than GE specs. The GE engineers are presently calibrating the system, and the personnel from GE who will train our MR technologists on the system's operation will arrive on Tuesday (May 31st). With luck, we will have the magnet for our initial use the following week.
On a related matter, we have had good luck in getting our existing IRB protocols amended in an expedited manner so that we can use the new system when it becomes available. Please refer to my preceding post in General Announcements concerning IRB amendments.
