SAN Users,

I compared the transfer times for copying files from Bristol using Windows XP Professional and Redhat Linux 8.0 (smbfs). All tests were performed on the same computer (Dell Dimension 4100).

Setup Details:

- Windows XP Professional
- Service Pack 1
- Mapped network drive

Linux
- RedHat 8.0
- kernel-2.4.18-26.8.0
- samba-2.2.7-2
- samba-client-2.2.7-2
- mounted share read-write using smbfs

Small Files
- Total Size 402MB (422,146,548 bytes)
- 6993 Files, 31 Folders
- File Size Histogram
-- 6560 files -> 56 kB
-- 410 files -> 104 kB
-- 23 files -> 3 to 127 kB

Large Files
- Total Size 0.99 GB (1,064,498,752 bytes)
- 12 Files, 0 Folders
- File Size Histogram
-- 2 files -> 2,317 kB
-- 2 files -> 97,591 kB
-- 8 files -> 104,968 kB

SAN Users,

Per Francis's request, I performed the same speed tests transfering files from Hall. I also repeated the tests for Bristol. The files described in my last post were used for both the Hall and Bristol tests.
