Folks,

Here is a list of software we plan to deploy with our standard computer configuration. Please post here (or email me) if you have any comments on this or other software it would be useful to have. Indicate Vendor, Application, Version, and why the application is needed. A web link would be helpful. Also, please note whether you think it is generally useful for all computers or only for a select few.

Windows XP SP2
Office 2003 SP1 (includes Access, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Word, Publisher, OneNote)
Acrobat 6.0
Analyze 6.0
Audacity 1.2 (replaces CoolEdit for sound editing)
CodeWright 7.5
EasyCDCreator 5
EndNote 8
Flash 7
F-Secure SSH 5.4
GoogleToolbar 2
Java 1.4.2_05
MATLAB R14 (7.0)
Perl 5.8.4
Photoshop 7.0.1
Presentation 0.81 or 9.00
QuickTime 6.5.1
SAS 8.2 or 9.1
Shockwave 10
SPSS 11.5 or 12.0
VirusScan Enterprise 8.0
WinZip 9.0.SR1
X-Win32 6.0.2
Visual Studio 2003 (for software development, maybe not everywhere)

E-Prime 1.1 (certain machines only, since requires dongle to install)

I think that it would be useful to have Sun's Java SDK 1.4.2_05 available for software development. Installing it on the same machines that have Visual Studio would likely be sufficient.

I also think that it would be useful to have a shortcut to SNAP ITK (\\Gall\Programs\BXH\SNAP-ITK\bin\SNAP.exe) in the Start Menu so that users don't need to find the program and create the shortcut on their own.

Another program which may be useful to include in the standard installation is XEmacs. The latest stable version is currently 21.4.15. The editor is quite useful for code development and would provide a uniform editor across platforms (e.g. on Golgi, Windows, and Linux) for those who want it. I suggest installing it on all workstations, but just software development workstations may be sufficient also.
