I ran an experiment on the 1.5T yesterday using CIGAL and had major problems. My instruction screen came up, not as words printed horizontally, but as thin squiggly lines at an angle. When the task started, there were still significant parts on each end on the screen that contained these lines, as if the experimental words were contained in a black box that only covered two-thirds of the screen. In addition, when the start screen came up, the screen started flickering and the only command I could use to stop the program was Ctrl+Alt+Del. I had run these exact scripts only two weeks ago with none of these problems, and I had run a subject using CIGAL on Monday, again with no problem. Has anyone else had any problems like this recently? Also, has anything been changed in the CIGAL program?

Thank you very much,

Dana Torpey

From Jim:

If the problem is only in some video modes then I suggest you
avoid those video modes for now. It's not clear to me what causes this
problem. If the image is bigger than the screen size it will cause problems
but I wouldn't have predicted squiggly images. The image size in inches
makes no difference at all, it's the pixel dimensions that matter (CIGAL
ignores the pixels/inch scaling facter that is somtimes in the file header.)
I know we have seen this problem in Cortmap when the screen is in a
funky mode (i.e. not what we usually use) but I believe it only appeared
since we started using Windows XP. I suspect it's some other aspect
of DirectX that has changed in WindowsXP (I've discovered at least
2 other incompatibilities so far). I am still planning to discontinue using
DirectX soon in CIGAL (mostly because of these WindowsXP issues)
and when I do this sort of ]problem should (miraculously) disappear.
If you can keep using the video modes that work until then it will
help.
