Hi All,
In regards to the new switch from Bristol to Hodgkin (for UNC)...I have several questions about acess to Hodgkin, specifically access from UNC.
We have received no official announcement, as far as I know, about this switch and how to deal with the results of the switch, so I am trying to piece together various bits of information from different sources. I am not even sure whether or not every study should be switching over yet. At the September 8th BUG tutorial, it sounded as though the switch to Hodgkin is still a little bit experimental, but I have been told on other occasions that we should all be making the switch as soon as possible. At this point it does not matter for our particular studies (our study folders have already been created), but other groups may be wondering which is the case.
1) It was mentioned at the September 8th BUG tutorial that Hodgkin is currently not accessible via SFTP. Is this indeed correct? When will this be remedied?
2) If it is the case that Hodgkin is not accessible via SFTP, how do we access our data on Hodgkin from UNC?
3) Do we need a specific user account for Hodgkin or is it the same as our regular BIAC user account? If we need a new account for Hodgkin, who do we contact to set up that account?
4) It would be VERY helpful if someone could post (or otherwise distribute) some sort of official announcement about this switch, including things such as: (a) The fact that all studies using BIAC should indeed make the switch (whenever this becomes true); (b) The best way to access data on Hodgkin from UNC; (c) Specific instructions for accessing data from a Windows PC, a linux workstation, and a UNIX workstation (Sun-Solaris), if all possibilities are available.
Thank you for your assistance.

The SAN (Bristol) is a resource that has been provided to the BIAC community at no charge by the University, with the understanding that we would act as a pilot test case and provide feedback to the administration on whether to pursue such a possible solution to the considerable storage needs of the University at large. In anticipation of that pilot phase winding down, BIAC has purchased, with the assistance of several groups of users, two Network Appliance FAS250 file servers (aka NetApp Filers). As of now, only the groups that have financially contributed to that purchase are given access to the NetApp filers (Hodgkin and Huxley). We are investigating purchasing another NetApp filer to address remaining storage needs. Please contact me or Dr. McCarthy if you are interested in such a purchase.

As of today, you can access your data on Hodgkin and Huxley using SFTP. Please see this forum post for the details.

You can use your regular BIAC account to access Hodgkin and Huxley. (This is the same as the account you use to access other BIAC servers, such as Broca, Gall and Hall, as well as the scheduling calendar.)

SFTP should now work (see above for a link to the details).
