This is to bring you up to date on control system status as I understand it (as of 9/2/03).

Video goggles: we got the repaired goggles back and they are now running on the 4T scanner. They are brighter than the loaner pair we were using, but they still need to be positioned perpendicular to the field (i.e., looking straight up) for optimal image quality inside the bore. Please make sure that your subjects are positioned properly and see a good image.

Audio headphones: we received a new set of headphones, which are now being used on the 4T. They are much louder than the previous set. I would like to swap the headphones between the 1.5T and 4T scanners (after testing that each works well in the other site); will that cause any problems for your experiments?

Triggering Presentation: the parallel port connection has been hooked up to the scanner trigger pulse on the Windows 98 and Windows XP computers on both scanners. They should all be able to trigger Presentation correctly (provided you set the appropriate parameters in Presentation.)

Button boxes: we now have 2 button boxes (with joysticks) on the 1.5T computer. The Box labeled #1 is connected to the Win 98 computer (Donders), and Box #2 is connected to the Win XP system (Mach).
(To confuse matters slightly, the buttons on Box #1 can actually be used by CIGAL on either machine.) Please be sure your subject has the correct button box by running the response testing functions (in either CIGAL or Presentation) before you start scanning.

Windows XP: we will upgrade the Win NT computer on the 4T to Win XP this week. Windows XP will then become our main platform on both scanners. Once everybody is settled using Windows XP we will upgrade the Windows 98 computers to Windows XP as well.

Presentation license: it is my understanding that most people are not prompted to enter license details when they run Presentation on Windows XP. If you are, there may be something about your settings that is not optimal. Please ask other Presentation users if they have similar problems (and if not how did they avoid them) or contact Amin, Francis, or me at BIAC for help.

That's all for now,
Jim
