Hi,
While running subjects in our lab, we have noticed quite a few problems with the headphones on the 4T as well- that overall the sounds were not loud enough, and that they seemed to be louder on one side than on the other. There are a couple of things that, while not solving the problem, may help a bit.
First, you can check the settings on the soundcard for the stimulus computer. There is a small yellow speaker in the system tray, and double clicking it will bring up a mixer with balance (R/L) sliders and volume sliders.
Second, there is another mixer that most people do not know about, that comes bundled with the sound card. If you open up Start->Programs and look for a folder having to do with the soundcard, there is another mixer with a much more fancy graphical interface.
Finally, you can use an additional command to attenuate the sounds in the louder ear, as suggested in this thread.
