I have connected the parallel port cable to trigger Presentation from the scanner on the Win98 computer (Kulpe) on the 4T scanner, and both Win98 (Donders) and WinXP (Mach) on the 1.5T scanner. Could somebody who uses Presentation please let me know if this actually works to trigger Presentation?

thanks,
Jim

Hi,

I tried to test the triggering from Presentation on both Mach and Donders on the 1.5T this afternoon. As far as I can tell, neither are working. It would be great if someone else could double-check this with their paradigm(s) as well, so that we can eliminate the possibility of a problem in my code (since I just started using Presentation a month or two ago).

The problems seem to be different on Mach and Donders, however; on Donders, it simply did not seem to be receiving the pulses, based on the logfile generated when I forced the paradigm to quit (since it did not start after the scanner had been running for a minute or two, and it should have started after only a few pulses). On Mach, though, the entire program seemed to freeze up after I hit 'enter' at the "Ready?" screen. I say that it seemed to freeze up because 1) the mouse pointer did not disappear from the screen like it usually does (and should) when a paradigm is being run in Presentation (but I could still move the pointer, so the entire computer wasn't locked up), and 2) I could not force quit the paradigm by hitting 'q' like I should be able to in Presentation. I had to go into the task manager and force quit Presentation entirely, so I have no log files to refer to in this instance.

Presentation on Mach is still trying to crash when I attempt to test the response box. Maybe this is related to the freezing-up problem when I tried to run a paradigm -- perhaps it is searching for the response box but cannot find it or freezes/crashes when it tries to 'contact' it (similar to what it does when I tried to test the response box in Presentation while not running a paradigm), thus freezing up the entire paradigm? Just a theory.

Please let me know if/when I can be of any more assistance, and if anyone else is able to test Presentation, please post your findings.

Thanks,
Sara Moore
