Welcome to the BIAC Forums, a new component on the BIAC website (www.biac.duke.edu). The Forums link is located on the BIAC home page at the top right part of the screen. Clicking on ‘Forums’ will take you to the Forums page.
At present, there are two Announcements Forums, and four Support Forums. The Announcement Forums are ‘post only’, where postings are limited to particular BIAC faculty and staff. The ‘BIAC General Announcements’ forum will list announcements that affect the entire BIAC community. These will include major changes in policies, significant upgrades, and new services. The ‘Operational Announcements’ will be more numerous than the General Announcements and will include updates on experimental control systems, scanner issues, and other information important for the day-to-day users of the BIAC.
The four Support Forums cover ‘Analysis Software Support’, ‘Experimental Control’, ‘Scanner Support’, and ‘Web Calendar Support’. Different BIAC faculty members and staff will moderate these forums, and will try to answer questions that are posed by the BIAC community. These forums can also be used for users to make suggestions or share tips with other users.
You will need to register if you want to make a post. When registering, you give the forum your email address and it sends you a link in an email message to activate your forum account. It is suggested that you use firstname.lastname as your username. Your password does not have to be the same as your BIAC password, and you can save it in a cookie, so you don't have to enter it each time you visit the forum.
In addition to browsing the forums online, you may subscribe by email to a forum or a particular topic. This would be most useful for the announcements forums. Users interested in receiving updates, such as this, can choose to subscribe by email to the ‘BIAC General Announcements’ forum. Indeed, once the forums have been established, then I will no longer send general announcements via email, but I will rather post them.
