We are experiencing problems today with both Fatt and Hill. Fatt was rebooted and now seems to be working, but Hill is not rebooting properly. This is a significant problem since all user profiles and some important file systems (e.g \Programs) are on Hill.
We are working to resolve the problem and appreciate your patience.

Hi,
Hill had a drive fail this morning - we are working to restore the server, but it will most likely continue to be unavailable for the rest of the day.
Please let me know if you have any questions, Thanks! Michele

Hi, Hill is still not rebooting properly today. All of the other servers are up and running. You should continue to be able to use the cluster. If you are on the BIAC network and working with windows, you may need to use Fsecure SSH client to connect and a non-gui text editor such as VI. We'll keep you posted as updates are available.
This should not affect scanner operations. As a general reminder, all experimental files should be stored locally on the scanner computers (e.g., D:\Tasks\Screen.01).
Thanks for your patience! Michele |

OK, the issue is that Xwin is trying to write to profiles, which aren't currently accessible, then its trying to write to a C:\ directory, which users don't have access to ... So here is a temporary workaround:
1) Open X-Config (not x-win32) from the windows start menu 2) Click OK to the error messages 3) Click the "Session Path +" button - this will allow you to redirect your profile to a directory youh ave access to 4) Give the path a name ( temp is fine), Browse to your D:\ drive (D:\Scratch) -- Click OK past more errors 5) select your new session folder (whatever it was named in the previous step) 6) the use the wizard to set up a new X-Win Session - Name: anything - Type: ssh - Host: einstein.biac.duke.edu (or whatever computer you may be connecting to) - Your Linux login/password - Command: select Linux - Select "Finish" - click OK past more errors
7) select the session you just created and select "Launch" - also, it takes a second for the window to appear - then login
