Folks,

As many of you know, the Bell Building is slated for demolition. In anticipation of this, BIAC will be moving most of our servers to a new machine room in Fitzpatrick. This will take place the weekend of July 26-27, 2008. Please do not plan on getting a lot of work done that weekend.

Impact
  • You will not be able to run subjects on the MR scanners.

  • You will not be able to access files on Adrian, Goldman, Fatt, Hodgkin, Huxley, Katz, or Nernst.

  • You will not be able to tunnel Remote Desktop through Nernst. (The VPN will still work.)

  • You will not be able to send, receive or read email.

  • The BIAC web site and scheduling calendar will be down.

  • The BIAC cluster will be down.

  • The BIRN rack will be down.

  • Golgi will be retired. Please use the BIAC cluster in the future.

We are hoping this will be a transparent move. However, it is a big one, and there will likely be some problems. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks,
Francis

Update
  • We will not be moving the email server this weekend, so email will be available.
  • In anticipation of the move, we will be shutting down all of the above servers at 10:00 PM Friday night.

Update

All servers have been moved to the new machine room. With the exception of Hodgkin and the cluster, everything is fully operational.

Hodgkin had two disk failures before the move, and we don't want to power it on until we have replacement disks on hand, which will probably be Tuesday or Wednesday. The system can handle two disk failures without data loss, but not three.

The cluster is operational, but currently is not mounting network drives. We hope to have this resolved on Sunday.

Please report any problems you notice.
