Does anybody happen to know if FSL will run without a lot of trouble on an Ubuntu distribution? Would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

It works great on Ubuntu, and installation/updating is easy because it can all be done with the package manager (Synaptics). Just go to the FSL download site and select the Debian distribution. http://www.fmrib.ox.ac.uk/fsldownloads/
