Posted - Jul 20 2011 : 2:19:42 PM Hi,
I seem to be having a recurring problem: when I use kwrite to edit a script on the head node, my ssh connection dies most of the time (unless I'm on VPN). I'm currently on the guest network near the scanners, but this happens at other locations too. Is this specific to kwrite? I've seen this same problem happen to a few other users. I'm sure network stability is playing a role here, but it's odd that the broken connection happens as a function of opening kwrite.
Thanks, David |

Posted - Jul 20 2011 : 5:28:26 PM hey lars, i think the problem on node56 is that your temporary directory was removed by an automatic process that cleans up the temp space. I guess you'd been logged into that node long enough without activity that the directory was deleted. things get written to your temp space when you open those editors.
as for other disconnections ... if there's any fluctuation on the switch in the data center you're likely to get kicked off. I've experienced this on some weekends, typically not during the week. |

I've seen something like that with kwrite before, and I think clearing its cache solved it: rm -rf ~/.kde

Posted - Jul 20 2011 : 2:25:30 PM Hi, kwrite doesn't seem to work for me on interactive node 55 and 56. This error gets printed on the terminal:
Communication error with launcher. Exiting! KCrash: Application 'kwrite' crashing...
Similar problems when opening gedit:
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-csE9eb2BrQ: Connection refused)
Hope that helps, Lars |
