The Resonance Technologies goggles need to be be perpendicular to the magnetic field for proper operation. I have noticed the following issues when the goggles are not aligned properly:
(1) The goggles are dimmer than if they are properly aligned. (2) Pixels get "stuck on". For instance, if you display a picture with a bright area, that area remains bright after the picture is removed. I have observed a large area of the screen remain bright for as long as several minutes.
We need to be particularly careful positioning and instructing subjects using the new NOVA coil. This coil sits higher in the bore than the GE supplied head coil making comfortable positioning of the goggles more challenging.
It may be worth instructing subjects to watch for these artifacts when they are first put in the bore so that they can reposition their head as necessary before imaging begins. Note that the goggles always get dimmer when the subject in moved into the bore.
