I've been having a couple different issues with the 4 button box at the 3t in my last few scans.

The participants are instructed to use the first two buttons (buttons "2" and "4"). In one run, cigal indicated that a participant used buttons "4" and "8." The participant checked and says that she did not shift her fingers.

Another problem is that cigal sometimes indicates that participants presses a button a different amount of time than what the .out file indicates.

For example:
Cigal said a participant pressed button "4" 11 times, and button "8" 158 times. The .out file shows that she pressed button "4" once and button "8" the rest of the time.

In another scan, cigal indicated the participant pressed:
Button 2- 12 x
Button 4 - 153 x
Button 6 -1 x
Button 8 - 2 x
The .out file indicated that the participant pressed button 2 ten times, and never pressed buttons 6 or 8.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It seems like the second button isn't working again.

I found a loose cable inside the button box today. Now it seems to work fine.

Unless you really need the joystick itself, I recommend that people stop using the old joystick button boxes. They have always been a bit unreliable and we now have more robust alternatives in the 4-button NeuroScan button box ("SRbox" readable by ePrime or CIGAL) or the pair of 4-button boxes that make up the 8-button box (readable by any program because it acts like a keyboard).

We will look into fixing button 2 on the joystick box, but the fewer devices we need to repair the better, especially now that we are short-staffed. If anyone depends on the joystik box and can't use either of the others please let me know and we will raise its priority.

thanks,
Jim

The second button on the 4-button joystick box is not working, but the first (code "2), third (code "8") and fourth (code "16") appear to be working just fine.

Jim,

This may because we are using an older version of Cigal. What version of Cigal do you currently recommend using with the 4 button box at the 3t? Also, will we have to change any flags in our ppf files to transition to a newer version? Thank you,

-Gabriel
