The 3T's body coil is currently not operating properly. It will take our GE engineer a couple days to troubleshoot, order, and replace the necessary parts.

How this will affect users: The 8-channel head coil uses the body coil for transmit, so the 8-channel head coil will not be available for use. The standard T/R coil will work fine, however- although I understand when using this coil there is a limited view of the screen. In addition, although not affecting most BIAC users, general body imaging will not be available.

We will post again when everything has been repaired.

will we be allowed to run our Friday scans?

That's correct, the current plan is to test everything on Friday to make sure there are no more problems.

Does this mean the scanner won't be available tomorrow?
tharsh Posted - Nov 17 2005 : 2:22:19 PM

The body coil in the 3T is being replaced right now. After testing tomorrow, everything should then be up and running again. Please see Michele's post under 'Operational Announcements' for info about possible Saturday hours.

The body coil for the 3T is scheduled to be replaced today. Additional adjustments to make sure it does not fail again are also being explored (our working theory is that vibration has led to the coil's failure, we will be doing a little re-engineering to minimize the vibration in the coil).

I will post again to update everyone as the coil is installed.

The 8-channel coil on the 3T continues to be unavailable. We do not have a clear time frame as to when this will be corrected, and I will try to post daily updates until everything is ready to go again.

If you need to use the 8-channel coil, please watch this space for updates. If you use special subject populations that require advanced notice of schedule changes, you may want to reschedule any experiments set for the next couple of days.
